Practice skill test · not an official paper

UPSC subordinate clerical (where notified)

UPSC rarely runs a standalone typing paper. Some subordinate clerical recruitments under it still include a skill test — practice here only if your notice says so.

Confirm the specific recruitment rules. Most UPSC exams do not include typing.

Duration 10:00 · practice cutoff 30 WPM · 90% accuracy · copy/paste disabled on the paper

US QWERTY keyboard

Default US ANSI board. Letters sit where English typists expect them. The on-screen board and this table follow the layout you picked in the exam settings. Set the same layout in your operating system so the keys you press match English on this page.

Home-row fingers rest on A S D F and J K L semicolon. Capitals and number-row marks use Shift.

This is the layout of most US clerical tests and of the English lessons on this site.

How to type letters on US QWERTY

Each row is a character that is not a plain unshifted English letter on that physical key. Shift and AltGr chords change with the layout.

Why Civil Services Examination never includes this keyboard

The Union Public Service Commission’s flagship civil-services exam does not include a typing paper. CSE has written papers and interviews, not a words-per-minute skill test. This page exists only for the uncommon subordinate or attached recruitments notified through UPSC or related rules that have historically included a skill test. If you are a CSE aspirant, this exam box is optional keyboard training, not an official mock. Do not pay anyone for a fake UPSC typing mock.

Internet lists sometimes claim a standard UPSC typing test as if it were a standing paper. It is not. If your advertisement never mentions a skill test, skip this page. When a typing test appears, it is for clerical or assistant-level subordinate posts, not for IAS, IPS, or IFS. Follow that specific recruitment’s rules: written, skill test if any, interview if any. Most UPSC examinations skip typing entirely. Confirm the PDF in your hand before you live here.

Rare subordinate notices that actually print a skill test

A few subordinate or attached recruitments have historically included a computer skill test. Each has its own degree and age table. CSE eligibility is irrelevant here. Graduation rules for a subordinate clerk are not CSE rules. A practice WPM does not move either table. This page uses a modest 30 WPM ten-minute practice as a generic clerical stand-in, with a strong caveat that there is no universal UPSC typing standard.

If a notice prints a WPM figure, train to it. If it prints a duration, train to that duration. If it prints English only, do not invent a Hindi paper. If it prints nothing about typing, you do not need this exam box. Official software, font, and backspace follow that recruitment, not this browser. A screenshot from this page will not be accepted as a Commission certificate. Nothing here is transmitted to UPSC.

A 30 WPM stand-in with no universal UPSC typing standard

Because these notices are rare and inconsistent, this site refuses to pretend there is a standing “UPSC typing pattern.” The 30 WPM gate is a training floor for generic clerical English, not a quote of a gazette. Candidates who treat it as official doctrine are doing the thing this card warns against. Convert the advertisement in force. If two blogs disagree with the PDF, the PDF wins. If this paragraph disagrees with the PDF, the PDF wins.

Languages follow whatever that specific notice says — often English. Do not invent a Hindi paper if the advertisement is English-only. If Hindi is listed, train an approved Devanagari layout on a desktop. Roman Hindi is not the paper. Lock the medium early. Changing script after you see a lab keyboard is how rare sittings are wasted. You may not see another vacancy like this for years. Coaching products labelled UPSC typing are usually selling a fiction.

Fake UPSC typing mock products to ignore

Coaching ads sometimes bolt the UPSC brand onto a CHSL-style mock because the brand sells. That is misleading when the customer is a CSE aspirant. It is also misleading when the customer holds a real subordinate notice and needs that notice’s rules, not a generic 35 WPM CHSL story. Use this page only as keyboard endurance. Use the advertisement as the pattern. Refuse products that promise a standing UPSC typing certificate.

Supreme Court Registry skill tests are not “UPSC typing” either. They are Registry recruitments. If your circular is from the Supreme Court, open that card. If it is a UPSC subordinate clerical notice that actually lists typing, stay here. Letterhead decides. Building name or the word Union does not. Opening the wrong card still trains fingers. It teaches the wrong caveat. Only the rare subordinate advertisement that prints a skill test belongs here.

English-only unless that specific advertisement says otherwise

Many rare notices are English-first. Train QWERTY running matter if that is what is printed. School-exam Hindi or a CSE optional language does not convert the skill test. If the notice is silent on Hindi, do not split the final week across scripts. If it names a script this site does not fully simulate, practise that script on your operating system as well. This page offers English and Hindi running matter as a generic stand-in only.

Backspace, font, and error formula are unknown until you read that cycle’s instructions. This browser allows ordinary backspace so you can train recovery. Add never-correct sittings if you fear a frozen lab. Keep a log of accuracy. A modest speed with clean characters is a better rare-exam plan than a reckless sprint. You may get one sitting. Treat it that way. Union-office dak still needs clean typing as a job skill after joining.

CSE eligibility tables that do not apply here

Do not import CSE age, attempt, or optional-subject logic into a subordinate clerical form. Each subordinate recruitment has its own table. Document verification matches that table. The candidate name in settings is a local label. Carry whatever that advertisement lists. A CSE admit card from another year is irrelevant. Keyboard work does not create CSE eligibility, and CSE eligibility does not create a typing paper inside CSE. IAS, IPS, and IFS papers never add a words-per-minute skill stage.

Union-office clerical work still needs clean typing after joining. That is a job skill, not a CSE stage. If you qualify a rare subordinate post, keep a weekly timed sitting so the skill does not decay before joining. Exam typing is a short paragraph. Office typing is files and proper nouns. Accuracy on names and file numbers is the habit that transfers. Official joining letters govern everything else. CSE age and degree tables do not govern this stand-in keyboard.

Union-office clerical work as a job skill, not a CSE stage

If you are here because someone sold you “UPSC typing” as CSE prep, close the box after you understand the warning. Optional keyboard fitness is fine; official-mock thinking is not. If you are here because your subordinate PDF actually lists a skill test, build a four-week plan: confirm the printed speed and language, take baselines, hold accuracy, then hold the printed window. Reread the letter the week of the lab.

If a paragraph on this page conflicts with your current advertisement, follow the advertisement. If your post has no typing test, you do not need this exam box. If it has shorthand, DEST, or a regional script, add those skills outside the limits of this page. Then use the timed paper above only as shared keyboard craft. Rare notices deserve a full read from scratch, not a recycled CHSL memory.

Frequently asked questions about UPSC subordinate clerical (where notified)

Qualifying rules, languages, WPM versus official software, and how this practice paper is not a UPSC certificate.

No. CSE has papers and interviews, not a WPM skill test. This page is only a practice stand-in for the uncommon subordinate clerical recruitments that mention typing. If you are a CSE aspirant, this exam box is optional keyboard training, not an official mock. Do not pay for a product that pretends IAS includes a skill-test lab. If your CSE advertisement never mentions typing — and it does not — skip this box for official purposes.
