Centralized Employment Notification as the only authentic NTPC rulebook
Railway Recruitment Boards notify NTPC under a Centralized Employment Notification. Each RRB administers CBT in its region; the typing skill test follows the same CEN rules. This page is a railway-office flavoured rehearsal, not a zonal lab client and not a medical certificate. The CEN in force is the only authentic source for speed, language, and whether your post even has a keyboard paper. Coaching charts from an older NTPC cycle are not a corrigendum.
Typical flow is CBT-1, CBT-2, then skill tests where applicable, then document verification and medical. Typing is qualifying for the posts that mention it. Railway medical standards are separate from typing. A comfortable mock here does not move a medical, and a medical does not waive a failed skill test. Keep the advertisement, corrigenda, and e-call letter in one folder. Those PDFs outrank every number on this page, including the 30 WPM practice gate.
Which NTPC posts actually carry a typing skill test
NTPC covers clerks, account clerks, timekeepers, and other non-technical roles. Only posts that list a typing or computer skill test need this practice. Station-master and some other lines use different skill or aptitude tests. Read the post name on your application before you rearrange months around a ten-minute keyboard. Opening this card for a post that never mentions typing still trains fingers; it is not an official stage for that line.
Graduate and undergraduate streams have different age and qualification tables. Typing practice does not move you from one stream to the other. Eligibility sits in the CEN, not in a browser result. The candidate name in settings is a local label. Labs match identity documents. If your hall ticket is GDCE rather than open NTPC, use the departmental card on this site instead. Internal and open channels are easy to mix when both appear in railway news the same year.
Ten-minute endurance in a crowded RRB lab
Many NTPC notices have used about 30 WPM English and 25 WPM Hindi on a personal computer, often with a ten-minute window. Some years mention a computer-based typing test with auto-generated passages. This page uses a 30 WPM practice gate and a ten-minute clock so you can train the usual band. If your CEN prints a different figure, train to that figure instead. Railway labs have a reputation for strict evaluation and busy conditions.
Practise with a ten-minute endurance hold, not only one-minute sprints. Speed that looks fine for sixty seconds often fades after minute seven. Hindi candidates should not rely on a phone Gboard layout if the lab is InScript. English and Hindi are the usual skill-test media. Regional languages are not automatically available. Railway labs may lock the keyboard layout. Practise the language you will select on the skill-test day, then stop switching the week of the sitting.
30 English / 25 Hindi as a habit, not a statute
That pair has been a common line in past CENs, but it is not a law. Always open the current Centralized Employment Notification and the skill-test e-call letter. Font, backspace, and error formula are the Board’s. This browser allows ordinary backspace so you can train recovery, which may be kinder than a frozen lab. If the e-call letter disables correction, add sittings where you refuse to backspace, then compare accuracy.
Indian railway notices sometimes print WPM and sometimes describe a computer typing test without a blog-ready conversion. Do not fight the evaluator with a key-depression story borrowed from SSC CHSL unless the CEN itself uses that language. Keep a log of scored speed, accuracy, language, and layout. If accuracy is weak, ignore speed until the red keys disappear. Net performance after errors is what usually decides a qualifying skill test.
Graduate stream versus undergraduate stream on the same CEN
Both streams can appear in one NTPC notification with different post clusters and qualification rows. The skill test, where prescribed, still follows the CEN’s typing paragraph for that post, not a social-media summary of “NTPC is always 30 WPM.” Confirm whether your undergraduate clerk line and a graduate accounts line share the same keyboard rule. If they do not, train to your line. This page cannot read your stream from the settings box.
Written merit and qualifying typing reward different weeks. People who only grind CBT still fail the lab on a stiff keyboard. People who only grind WPM still miss CBT-2. Split the calendar. Medical remains a separate railway gate. Do not skip eyesight or physical standards because your typing buffer looks comfortable. Arrive at the lab knowing the language you selected in the application. Changing medium at the last minute is a common bilingual failure.
Commercial figures after you join an NTPC clerk desk
NTPC clerks type office notes, crew or commercial correspondence, and spreadsheet-backed reports. Clean figures matter for pay and claims work. Keep number-row accuracy in your weekly drills even when the official passage looks like ordinary prose. Exam typing is a short burst. Office typing is interruption and identifiers. After you qualify, keep a weekly timed run so the skill does not decay before joining or during probation. Station-master aptitude is not this clerk typing paper.
The passage pack on this card uses railway-office flavour: commercial and clerical English that resembles NTPC-style skill-test prose, not a traction or safety paper. Memorising the pack is wasted effort. Official passages may be auto-generated. Read ahead and hit the current character. If your post never lists typing, you do not need this exam box. If it lists a different computer aptitude test, add that skill outside the limits of this page.
CBT-1, CBT-2, then a qualifying keyboard, then railway medical
Sequence the year so typing is a short daily block once you know your post lists it. Week one of a focused month: language, layout, three full ten-minute baselines. Week two: accuracy first, including digits. Week three: hold the CEN’s printed line for the full window. Week four: bilingual alternate sittings if both media are allowed, then reread the e-call letter. Rest the day before the lab. A new layout in the parking lot is a failing plan.
Nothing on this page is sent to any RRB. A screenshot is not a skill-test pass. Carry whatever identity and qualification list the CEN prints. Skill-test labs match photo, signature, and sometimes a biometric. Eat, use a familiar keyboard the day before, and bring glasses if you need them. A typing test is a vision test too. If a paragraph here conflicts with the CEN, follow the CEN. Pay and claims desks still punish a slipped crew-number digit.
