US QWERTY — changes with paper language

US QWERTY

Duration 10:00 · practice cutoff 35 WPM · 90% accuracy · copy/paste disabled on the paper

US QWERTY keyboard

Default US ANSI board. Letters sit where English typists expect them. The on-screen board and this table follow the layout you picked in the exam settings. Set the same layout in your operating system so the keys you press match English on this page.

Home-row fingers rest on A S D F and J K L semicolon. Capitals and number-row marks use Shift.

This is the layout of most US clerical tests and of the English lessons on this site.

How to type letters on US QWERTY

Each row is a character that is not a plain unshifted English letter on that physical key. Shift and AltGr chords change with the layout.

Head Constable (Ministerial) versus General Duty constable

Central Reserve Police Force and other Central Armed Police Forces notify Head Constable (Ministerial) vacancies. Typing or dictation skill tests follow the force’s advertisement, often through SSC or the force’s own board. Ministerial work is the clerical backbone of battalions and offices: orders, strength returns, and correspondence. This page is only for that computer typing skill. If your advertisement is for General Duty constable, you may not have this test at all.

Written test, physical standards where applicable, skill test, medical, and document verification is the usual ministerial shape. Ministerial posts emphasise the computer typing or stenography skill more than combat trades, but many notifications still include physical standards that differ from GD PET. This typing page does not simulate race, long jump, or medical exams. Clear those as notified, and use this page only for the computer skill test. Read the force’s advertisement, not a GD coaching poster.

Battalion orders, strength returns, and confidential movement notes

Once posted, you will type confidential movement and personnel notes. Accuracy and discretion matter. Practise clean capitals on ranks, unit names, and dates. Exam passages may still be generic clerical English or Hindi. The desk will not be generic. After you hold the practice gate, add a custom list of rank abbreviations and unit-like strings. A typo in a strength return is a professional incident, not a cute error. Discretion is part of that desk.

Some notifications also mention Assistant Sub-Inspector (Steno) with a different skill test. Do not mix the two. If you applied for ministerial typing, this card is the relevant skill. If you applied for a steno line, you still need dictation practice outside this site. This page never plays spoken matter. Head Constable (Ministerial) is a clerical force job, not a shortcut around shorthand where the notice demands it. SSC may conduct some force papers; the advertisement still names the force.

35 English / 30 Hindi lines seen in several CAPF notices

English typing near 35 WPM and Hindi near 30 WPM have appeared in several CAPF ministerial notices. Duration is often ten minutes. Confirm whether backspace is allowed. This page uses a 35 WPM ten-minute ministerial practice. Official software, font, and error formula follow that year’s advertisement. Do not argue a CHSL key-depression story at a force lab unless the notice itself uses that language. General Duty constable PET is not this ministerial keyboard.

Force offices still produce a lot of English orders. If you pick Hindi, be ready for InScript in the lab. Phonetic mobile typing is a weak predictor. English and Hindi are the usual pair; lock the medium printed on your skill-test instructions. Changing script after you see the machine is a common bilingual failure. This browser can switch paper language before start. It cannot install a force image’s missing IME.

Physical standards that typing practice cannot relax

Age, education (often intermediate), and sometimes height or other physical standards are force-specific. Typing practice does not relax PST or PET if those apply to your post. Many ministerial notifications still include physical standards, though they differ from General Duty constable PET. Read your force’s advertisement. Candidates who live only on this URL and skip the physical appendix fail a gate this site cannot see. Confidential movement notes punish a leaked or mistyped location.

Medical remains another gate. A comfortable mock does not move a medical, and a medical does not waive typing. Document verification matches identity papers. The candidate name in settings is a local label. Carry whatever the notice lists. If SSC is conducting the paper, follow SSC’s skill-test letter. If the force’s own board is conducting it, follow that board. The keyboard craft is shared; the letterhead is not. This page uses a 35 WPM ten-minute ministerial rehearsal, not combat PE.

Force-office English orders and InScript if you pick Hindi

English orders use ranks, unit names, and dates that punish sloppy capitals. Hindi orders use Devanagari that punishes sloppy matras. Train the medium you will sit. If the notice lets you choose, pick the script you can hold for ten minutes with high accuracy, not the script you speak at home. Spoken Hindi does not convert an English paper. Spoken English does not convert a Devanagari paper. Assistant Sub-Inspector steno streams need outlines you must train elsewhere.

This passage pack uses ministerial flavour: reports and office notes, not a physical-efficiency mock. Memorising the pack is wasted effort. Official passages will not match. Read ahead and hit the current character. Copy and paste are blocked on the paper. If you need to stop, cancel and return to settings. Official clients may show a different pane. Do not panic at geometry; match characters under the clock. Battalion English orders remain common even if you pick Hindi typing.

Distinguishing ASI (Steno) advertisements from this ministerial paper

Steno lines add dictation. Ministerial lines usually emphasise computer typing. Mixing the two is how people waste a month on the wrong skill. Read the post name on the form. If shorthand is listed, pair audio practice with this keyboard. If it is not listed, do not invent a dictation paper from a friend’s ASI notice. CAPF advertisements in the same season can include both. Your form decides. A month of keyboard work should sit beside, not instead of, PST tables.

Delhi Police Head Constable (Ministerial) is a cousin, not the same notice. Use the Delhi Police card if SSC or Delhi Police issued that admit card, and this CRPF/CAPF card if that is your advertisement. Same family of ministerial typing, different force and letterhead. Opening the wrong card still trains fingers. It teaches the wrong caveat about physical standards and conducting body. Several CAPF notices printed English near 35 and Hindi near 30.

A month of ministerial keyboard work beside PST tables

Week one: confirm post name, language, and whether physical standards apply. Take three ten-minute baselines. Week two: accuracy first, including capitals on ranks. Week three: hold the notice’s speed for the full window. Week four: reread the skill-test letter and the physical appendix. Do not skip running practice because your WPM looks fine, and do not skip typing because your run time looks fine. Both gates can remove you.

After selection, keep a weekly timed sitting. Battalion offices still need clean orders. Confidentiality is a workplace rule this site cannot score. Accuracy on unit names and dates is the transferable habit. Nothing here is transmitted to CRPF or any CAPF. A practice gate is a training floor, not a joining letter. If the advertisement never mentions typing, you do not need this exam box. Strength returns still want clean ranks, unit names, and dates.
