45 WPM modest floor for file-based subtitling
Forty-five WPM is a modest practice floor for file-based subtitling. Live captioning often needs 180+ WPM on a steno machine or 80+ on a keyboard with aggressive abbreviation — not simulated here. Convert the job post. If the desk is file-based, this clock is closer. If the desk is live CART, this clock is only a finger warm-up. Do not treat a 45 WPM gate as realtime certification. Official error-counting follows the vendor.
English caption-style short lines are the medium. Timing-sync is not scored. After you hold the timed gate, practise line breaks and speaker IDs in a caption tool. Do not drop typing endurance because you discovered timestamps, and do not skip timestamps because your WPM looks fine. Both gates can remove you if both are listed. This site is a typing practice engine. It will not open a caption file format.
Live CART 180+ steno or 80+ abbreviated keyboard not simulated
If you are training for CART, you need a steno machine or a serious abbreviation system elsewhere. This page will not teach either. Use it only so QWERTY fingers stay clean on short lines. Court-reporting firms that hire CART will not accept this result as a realtime pass. Legal-transcription on this site is visible pleadings at 50 WPM, also not realtime. Open that card for LPO desks. Week one: three honest three-minute caption-line runs. Week two: accuracy on names and short clauses. Week three: hold 45 WPM; push higher if the vendor’s file-based test is faster. Week four: vendor tool practice for timing-sync if they sent a sample. Invert that order and you will have pretty clerical WPM and a failed subtitle file. Civic CHSL passages are the wrong weekly diet for line length. Courtroom CART and streaming subtitle desks still print different speed bars.
Three-minute caption-like lines
The clock is short because many vendor typing samples are short. If their file-based test is longer, over-train on a longer clock after you hold three minutes. Endurance that looks fine for 180 seconds can fade when lines keep arriving. Official timers will not match this browser. Match characters anyway. Hold accuracy first. A mistyped speaker name on a caption is a professional incident. Speaker identification and line-break judgement remain vendor skills.
Vendor training programmes exist. There is no government captioning commission in this catalog. Eligibility is employer-specific. Keyboard work does not rewrite a training-programme row. A practice screenshot is not a CART credential. The candidate name in settings is a local label. If a vendor asks for a sample, they will usually give their own file or video.
